"Football (or soccer) managers, face a level of scrutiny that’d make most people shudder. So what can we learn from the guy frantically gesturing on the touchline about growing an Amazon business? It’s all covered in this episode of the podcast!"
For those of you who don't know, football manager is a game where you play as the manager of a football \ soccer club.
We love it when for fun when we were growing up but also how it gives you a hands-on experience of how a business works.
There are so many business lessons inside the game that you can extract.
Players are like products. You cant play a match with only one player...
You must build up a team, a variety of products that have strengths in different areas.
You have a substitute bench also, where you have players \ products that are getting ready to launch and get playing.
Then, your product research is like your team's youth club. You've got buds in the works, ready to grow into a valuable addition tot he team.
Manager of the team. Director of the business. Same thing!
Your scouts and coaches are constantly searching for new players to bring to the team. Just like how you should be searching for new products, adding to the growing pipeline.
Even if you can't afford those winning players/products right away, it's still better to have them under watch fo when you can invest in them.
Players don't last forever. Products don't last forever...
Some players retire, some products sell off...
As the manager, you must be able to emulate the results of those previous players, by adding in new ones.
If a product is no longer selling, get ready to replace it with one that is selling!
You've always got to be preparing for your next venture.
If there is not enough fresh blood coming into the business, it will die.
Analyse what is going on in your life and make the appropriate adjustments.
"As an unexamined life isn't worth living, a business unexamined isn't worth owning"
Amazon is the most forgiving business we have ever seen when it comes to learning how to play.
